This is how you can install Windows 11 Moment 5 on your PC

The latest update to Microsoft's operating system is now available with some interesting new features.  It is worth knowing what features it adds to the latest version of this environment, and for this you will have to update your device.  How do I do it?  So you can install Windows 11 Moment 5 on your computer.

For those who don't remember, Microsoft released the fifth update for Windows 11 Moment last February.  However, this update has been enabled for a few computers since Redmond decided to restrict it.  After several weeks, they seem to have finally convinced themselves that it is stable and we can use it.

In fact, although Microsoft assured that if we checked for updates manually, we would be able to update our computer, the limitations were there and thousands of users were unable to update.

What should you know before installing Windows 11 Moment 5 on your computer?

Obviously, this version of Windows 11 Moment 5 is the same version that was released in a restricted way.  This indicates that Microsoft was not sure about the stability of the update, and let the boldest install this optional update KB5035942 for Windows 11 version 23H2 without putting others at risk.  After seeing that there are no serious security or privacy issues, they have now released it in full.

What's new in this new Windows update

Being an optional update, we already know that nothing new will change our experience as users, although some Europeans will be happy to be able to uninstall Microsoft Edge and Bing Web Search.  This was something they were unable to do until now, but they can no longer be uninstalled.  On the other hand, Copilot becomes more important when placed on the right side of the taskbar.  Microsoft is betting big on artificial intelligence.

If we go to the Widgets panel, we find that it adds a function to get rid of news, while certain applications add functionality.  Notepad, for example, has a new "Annotate with Copilot" option (which I have to admit is quite annoying, because it's in the right-click context menu where we previously had the "Select All" option. Until I got used to  So, I'll keep opening it by mistake 🙄)

Optional update KB5035942 is difficult to obtain.  Or at least, it's not as easy as we think.  It may be available, but we've tested it on more than one computer and it doesn't always appear for download.  Basically, Windows Update does not detect the presence of this optional update.  Therefore, we cannot download it in this way;  Although all computers are running Windows 11, version 23H2 is up to date.

On the other hand, we have activated the “Get latest updates” boxes.  It didn't even appear that way.  This leaves us with manual installation as the only alternative.  Or, why not, wait until Windows includes the optional Moment 5 update in the cumulative update scheduled for release next Tuesday, April 9.

Steps to install Windows 11 Moment 5...manually

While it's clear that some users will have issues letting Windows take care of this optional update, if you're interested in enjoying it, it's best to install it manually.  Here are the steps:

Open this download page on the Microsoft Update Catalog website

Find the correct version of the update for your operating system - Preview the 2024-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5035942) if you're using Windows 11 version 23H2. Download the build from the button next to it.  You will see that it weighs 670MB

Once the file is downloaded, double-click it, select Yes and wait for it to update

The installation may take some time to complete.  Once you do that, select Restart now

Once your computer restarts, the installation will be complete and you will be able to access its new features

Not sure you did it correctly?  Go to Settings, Windows Update, Update History.  From there you can check which updates have been completed over time on your device.  This is very useful if you want to uninstall Windows 11 updates, because you won't miss any of them.

Is this optional upgrade worth it?

We said at the beginning that it is useful to know what the characteristics of update KB5035942 are.  However, we don't think it's worth installing.  Within two weeks, you'll be able to do this with the April cumulative update, and then you won't have to go through the cumbersome manual download and installation process.
